Jennifer Haddock

Solo Horn

Jenny joined Milnrow Band back in September 2015, but brass music had already been part of the furniture at home thanks to a musical mum and uncle. The real tipping point came at primary school, when a teacher handed round mouthpieces and announced that anyone who could buzz would get an instrument. Jennifer buzzed, got the instrument, and has been making a lot of very organised noise ever since.

Her musical adventures have taken her a long way from the bandroom, including a month in sunny San Diego playing with the San Diego Youth Symphony. Back on home turf, one of her proudest moments with Milnrow was qualifying for the National Finals and stepping out in the Championship Section for the first time – a proper goosebumps day.

Ask Jennifer what keeps her coming back, though, and it is not just the contests. It is the fact that the band is “all really good friends” – a ready‑made family that just happens to rehearse in four-part harmony.

When she is not behind a music stand, you will probably find Jennifer at the rink, cheering on the Sheffield Steelers with her season ticket in hand. Between brass band fortissimos and ice hockey crowds, she is well used to life at full volume.
