Jenny Cook
Second Baritone
Jenny joined Milnrow Band in June 2025 and has been adding both sound and sparkle ever since. Brass was not the original plan – Jenny started out on the violin – but everything changed when a trombone appeared at home courtesy of a mischievous brother. The trombone looked like far more fun, so the violin was swiftly retired and Jenny picked up a trumpet… and the rest, as they say, is history.
One of Jenny’s proudest musical moments is performing at the British Open, soaking up the atmosphere and proving that all those hours in the bandroom really do pay off. Closer to home, a standout memory with Milnrow is being part of the winning performance at the Hebden Bridge March & Hymn Tune contest, with a front-row seat to some of the finest cornet playing in the country.
For Jenny, though, banding is about much more than contests and concerts. The real magic is the camaraderie: the shared jokes in rehearsal, the pre-concert nerves, and that feeling when everyone locks in on a big chord and knows it was worth turning up on a rainy Thursday night.
When Jenny is not making music, you are most likely to find her in a field rather than a band room. Jenny owns two horses and loves spending spare time riding and occasionally competing. Between the brass band and the horses, there is never a dull (or quiet) moment.
