Principle Cornet

Liam joined Milnrow Band in 2023 and quickly made an impact. A standout moment so far was helping the band secure a second Scottish Open title, this time with the added pressure of defending the crown. The win made the long hours in the bandroom more than worthwhile.

On a personal level, one of Liam’s biggest achievements is receiving the Best Soprano Cornet prize at Delph on Whit Friday in 2024 – an especially big compliment given the calibre of players whose names already appear on that trophy.

A favourite performance with Milnrow is Liam’s first North West Area outing on Philip Wilby’s “Red Priest”. It was also the first Championship‑level test piece Liam had played back at the 2013 Grand Shield with Whitburn, so returning to the same hall, on the same piece, at the start of a new chapter with Milnrow felt like things coming full circle.

Away from banding, Liam is a keen follower of rugby and basketball. Playing rugby to a high level as a teenager was great fun, but after lining up opposite Scotland international Jonny Gray at a tournament, Liam made the very sensible decision to focus more on playing – for the sake of long‑term health and intact bones.
